The Single Mom KC
The Single Mom KC (TSMKC) was founded in 2009 by Misty Honnold, who desired to see single moms come together for hope and healing, knowing that access to authentic relationships and a loving community could result in improved well-being for single moms and their children.
Misty, a single mom, knew first-hand the exhaustion and isolation that came with bearing the full responsibility of parenthood and provision for a family. TSMKC grew out of a desire that no single mom should have to journey to parenthood alone.
Today TSMKC is led by Executive Director Rachel Nelson-Segobia, with a mission that invites single moms into the community, equips their families in spiritual and emotional growth, and provides resources so families can walk in restoration.
TSMKC’s vision is to build communities of hope that empower single mothers to lead solid, stable, thriving families.
TSMKC is peer-led and highly collaborative, with trained single-mother leaders implementing most of its programming. The Single Mom KC seeks to serve holistically, empowering and encouraging single moms in every area of their lives.
It does this by providing connection and community with other moms, workshops that embrace, educate, nourish, and offer hope, practical, spiritual, and leadership development opportunities, children’s programs for kids to explore and grow, clothed with Dignity Boutique where moms can “shop” for free every month, and an outlook that centers on the abundant grace of Jesus Christ.
Ultimately, TSMKC is dedicated to restoring and emotionally healing single-mother families. It’s their goal to utilize the gift of hospitality to create a welcoming and safe environment for single mothers in the Kansas City Metro.
