The Prospect KC
The Prospect KC is a ground-breaking non-profit created by Chef Shanita McAfee-Bryant to answer the statistics on minority unemployment and lack of access to healthy foods.
They provide job training for underserved men and women by developing innovative programming and partnerships to increase access to fresh fruits & vegetables throughout Kansas City’s urban core.
They believe that they can create opportunities for growth while also addressing systemic problems like food insecurity, unemployment, housing instability, and other challenges facing minority communities.
Their three goals are to provide housing and other comprehensive support services to disadvantaged individuals, ignite students’ drive for a fresh start with the skills they need to transform their lives, and feed & educate hungry people.
The students become part of the solution—together with The Prospect KC, community partners, and donors—the first day they prepare a meal for our community's most vulnerable and hungry. It can be a lifelong transformation, helping to build confidence, self-reliance, and hope for their graduates.
The Prospect KC and its founder are excellent examples of community leaders and drivers for change.
