DePrice Taylor

DePrice Taylor was born in Detroit and spent her youth excelling at basketball, so much so that she was offered a D-1 scholarship out of high school.

Even though that experience did not go as planned, it was a life lesson for DePrice and one that would help set her on a new journey that would help lead her to KC. After returning to Detroit, a college coach saw her playing pick-up basketball and offered her a scholarship to a Junior College in western Kansas. So, after one year there,  she and Coach Lane Lord were off to Pittsburg State University.

After a successful three-year career at PSU and getting her master’s, the first in her family to do so,  DePrice moved to KC. Being in the middle of a recession, finding work was difficult, but DePrice knew she wanted to work with youth. So she moved to Illinois to work with the Boys & Girls Club of Dundee Township for two years before coming back to KC to be the Unit Director for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater KC.

After a great six-year run, a new opportunity arose to work for one of my favorite orgs in KC, Kanbe’s Markets, where DePrice ran Community Engagement. A partnership between Kanbe’s and the KC Current opened the door for DePrice to work in professional sports, and in April 2022, she made the jump and joined the KC Current.

Today, DePrice is the Executive Director of Community Relations for the KC Current, focusing on elevating the sport of women’s professional soccer and helping connect the community with the team.

She deepens the organization’s impact by listening and building relationships with the community, fans, and partners. She can work with an organization in the Current that is dedicated and committed to being a catalyst for change.

The three pillars she focuses on with the Current are increasing access to sports for all, inspiring bold ambition by showing women in all roles, specifically STEM, and supporting DEI initiatives.

Unsurprisingly, DePrice is dedicated to the Kansas City Community and working to help give back to the city’s youth. She sits on several boards, including Youth Ambassadors, Inc, Black Excellence KC, and Kansas City Sports Commission & Foundation, and was recently appointed by Mayor Lucas to the Visit KC board. She is also a 2022 Centurion graduate.

DePrice is incredibly dedicated to creating a great future for KC and women’s sports and helping ensure all kids can have a bright future in our city.
