Anna Munguia

Anna Bazan Munguia grew up in Tyler, Texas, and was the youngest of 27 grandchildren.

Maybe it was her grandfather working for President Harry S. Truman, but Anna always felt destined to make her way to Kansas City at some point. During her childhood, Anna worked for her family business, a French bakery her late father started where, because of his mentor, he became a French Pastry Chef.

After completing her undergrad at Texas A&M University, she worked in her hometown of Tyler, TX, before coming to Kansas City in early 2013. Anna, a current employee of Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City (BBBSKC), volunteered for ten years before starting with the nonprofit in 2021.

Before working with BBBSKC, Anna worked for a few companies focused on Marketing, National Event Planning, Business Development, Sales, and Partnerships.

Today, Anna is the Director of Community Outreach for BBBSKC, where she focuses on strengthening the relationship between BBBSKC and the citizens of Kansas City.

Given Anna’s commitment to her community, it is no surprise that she is heavily involved in the community, specifically within the Hispanic community and nonprofit sectors. She is a Board Member of The Folly Theater, El Centro, Inc., and the International Relations Council. She is also the Co-Chair of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (JEDI) Advisory Board for BBBSKC and a Big/Mentor for BBBSKC.

Because of her dedication to philanthropy, advocacy, and mentorship, Anna was named to the 2023 Class of Rising Stars by the Independent Magazine. She was also named to the 30 under 30 by Ink Magazine, affiliated with the Kansas City Star, and was a Most Wanted Honoree in 2014 for BBBSKC.

Anna was recently accepted into the Centurions Leadership Program and will be a part of the Apex Class 2025.

Anna is incredibly hard-working, motivated, and community-focused, and her current impact on KC is only the beginning. I know she will continue to do big things for our city, and I cannot wait to support her journey.
