Watson Links
It’s Masters week, so what better time to talk about Watson Links, 8-time Major Champion Tom Watson’s youth golf mentoring program, led by Executive Director Pauly Hart.
Tom Watson attributes his success on and off the golf course to his mentors.
That’s why he created Watson Links with the mission to provide opportunities for kids to play golf alongside a mentor, inspiring lifelong players who benefit from the positive experiences associated with the game.
In 2020, Tom met with young golf enthusiasts and teaching professionals to explore building a bridge from early lessons on the driving range to an enduring passion for the game. In those discussions, it became clear that mentorship focused on social play was the key – and Watson Links was born.
Watson Links matches players between ages 10 and 18 with adult mentors to play nine holes of golf at no cost to them. These fun, social rounds help create a lifelong passion for the game by taking them beyond the driving range to on-course play.
Along the way, kids are exposed to positive life skills intrinsic to the game, such as patience, respect, and judgment.
In its pilot season, Watson Links developed an important partnership with the First Tee of Greater Kansas City that helped the program grow. This year, Watson Links is in six locations: Indianapolis, Kansas City, Omaha, Sacramento, Savannah, and Wichita.
At Watson Links, golf is more than just a sport- it’s a lifelong journey filled with fun, learning opportunities, and unforgettable moments.
