Tam Tran
Is entrepreneurship born or learned?
While we may never know the answer to that question, our feature today, Tam Tran, sure seems like he was born to be an entrepreneur.
After graduating from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a Bachelor's in Electrical and Computing Engineering, Tam has co-founded four separate businesses, including his current company, DataAppraisal, where he serves as CEO.
Before launching DataAppraisal, Tam co-founded Galleon Labs in 2011, which was acquired by Ingenology. He then was a Partner with Laplacian, which developed several products leveraging emerging technologies, like machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision.
From 2017 to mid-2021, he was the Co-Founder of both Toggle Software, LLC and Full Cycle Development Group.
In a brainstorming session, Tam had an “a-ha moment” when the question was posed, “What would you do if you knew the value of your data”?
That question and some intensive research into patents ultimately led to longtime friends Tam and his Co-founder and CTO Roger Ngo launching DataAppraisal in the summer of 2021, with COO Jason Delker “Delk” joining in Spring of 2023.
DataAppraisal employs a healthcare data marketplace that enables healthcare enterprises the ability to maximize the value of their data assets, in while, supplying AI reseachers with de-identified data they need to create groundbreaking AI models that enhances patient lives.
Their innovative approach unlocks previously untapped opportunities for growth, innovation, optimization, and data collaboration. They provide precise and comprehensive data assets by leveraging cutting-edge artificial intelligence, empowering organizations to deploy their healthcare data to improve the quality of humankind.
In the spring of 2023, DataAppraisal raised a $1M preseed round, focusing on expanding their team and product research and development.
Before the preseed round, DataAppraisal secured $20,000 from the Digital Sandbox KC grant and was one of six winners in the 2022 LaunchKC grant competition, netting them $50,000. Tam and Roger were also accepted into the 2023 Pipeline Entrepreneurial Fellowship Pathfinder cohort.
Most recently, Tam was named one of the “20 People to Know in Technology” by the Kansas City Business Journal. The series focused on showcasing the extraordinary talent and expertise in the KC area.
With all of Tam’s and DataAppraisal’s recent successes, I believe they are destined for huge things, and I cannot wait to continue supporting their journey.
