BKS Artisan Ales
Owned by Mary Rooney and her husband Brian, BKS Artisan Ales opened in late 2017 as the first craft brewery in Kansas City’s Brookside neighborhood.
Containing the well-known abbreviation for the neighborhood, BKS, the brewery is located at 633 E. 63rd Street, on the corner of 63rd Street and Holmes Street. The location houses a production facility and tasting room that aims to provide quality and unique beers.
The Kansas City brewery combines traditional and experimental styles to produce classic and modern ales and lagers. In addition to draft pours at the tasting room, which is open seven days a week, packaged to-go beers are available from the Brookside location.
BKS Artisan Ales was named to a list of “The Best Breweries of 2023” in the December edition of Hop Culture magazine. The publication also named its Rockhill & Locust English Mild Ale one of the best beers of the year.
Previously, BKS medaled twice at the largest beer contest in the United States, The Great American Beer Festival, winning a silver for Clouds Hazy Double IPA in 2021 and a gold medal for Rockhill & Locust English Mild Ale in 2022.
It was named “Breakout Brewer” in August 2022 by Craft Beer & Brewing magazine, which also honored the brewery by naming its Pivo Project Bohemian-Style Pilsner one of the best beers in 2023.
Its Counterculture IPA was named one of the best IPAs in America right now by Thrillist magazine.
