From growing up in a small Kansas farm town to practicing nursing in Wichita to creating a company that is disrupting one of the largest industries in the country, healthcare.
No, that is not the plot of a Hollywood script but the journey of CaRessa Hutchinson, founder and CEO of ModRN Health.
As a nurse, she saw the challenges her patients and their families faced trying to make sense of prescriptions, doctor visits, chronic conditions, unexpected diagnoses, treatment plans, and health insurance. These issues she saw created financial strain for her patients and even confusion on how and where to access care.
CaRessa knew she had to do something about these issues and provide her patients with a personal experience at their fingertips while also helping them navigate the journey of getting the proper care.
From there, she launched ModRN Health in 2019. They are a health provider that goes beyond the hospital/clinic by providing exceptional customer service and advocacy. This starts with each patient being assigned a dedicated nurse and doctor focused on their individual health care needs and continuity of care and navigating their health benefits.
If a member needs a health problem diagnosed, a prescription refilled, a recommendation for a specialist, or has health questions or questions about their insurance, they communicate within minutes with their care team. The member’s care team provides medical help, finds highly recommended specialists when needed, discusses care options, and offers relevant education, including financial resources the member may qualify for and answers to insurance questions.
Early last year, ModRN Health entered into an IDIQ (Indefinite demand, indefinite quantity) partnership with the DOD, expanding its offering beyond primary care and into critical care as the supplemental clinical provider for the National Emergency Tele-Critical Care Network (NETCCN).
Instead of the status quo health insurance designs most of us are familiar with, ModRN Health went to market by embedding their solution into high-value-based health plan designs, resulting in immediate double-digit cost savings for their clients.
I am hopeful that the approach CaRessa and ModRN Health are taking to patient care is the future of medicine. I love that they can help individuals, small businesses, non-profits, school districts, and large corporations drive down healthcare costs and take a preventative approach to the patient’s health.
