Junior Achievement of Greater KC
Led by President and CEO Megan Sturges Stanfield, Junior Achievement of Greater Kansas City (JAKC) brings business back to the classroom by providing programs to promote financial decision-making, curate an entrepreneurial mindset, and prepare students (K-12) for success in a 21st-century workplace.
Connecting classrooms with business and community volunteers in a hands-on learning environment will equip Kansas City's next generation with the skills they need for a choice-filled future.
JAKC programs are delivered via classroom learning, culminating field trips, and experiential, real-world application.
JAKC opened a new facility in KCK in 2021. The JAKC Youth Learning Lab, presented by the Mallouk Family Foundation, is home to three capstone programs. The signature program, JA BizTown, was presented by CommunityAmerica Credit Union, inspired by the late Exchange City program.
JA BizTown combines classroom learning with a field trip opportunity to a simulated Kansas City economy. Students apply for a job in a storefront and learn about teamwork, earning & spending money, voting, and more. JA BizTown connects the dots between their in-school lessons and the real world.
One of the most extraordinary components of JA BizTown is that all the businesses represented are local KC companies, including Creative Planning, Kansas City Royals, Charlie Hustle Clothing Co., JE Dunn Construction, Hallmark Cards, and many others.
The remaining space is dedicated to the JA Career Center and JA Innovation Center.
In September 2022, JAKC was recognized for its tremendous impact and innovation, helping KC kids turn dreams into reality, with a $1,000,000 donation from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. Scott’s donation is helping to launch a new high school initiative, 3DE by Junior Achievement.
