Michael Mackie
While I am not sure how someone with a Kansas driver’s license has yet to see The Wizard of Oz, that’s true of our guest Michael Mackie today. We should give him a pass since he grew up in Iowa, not Kansas.
From a young age, Michael always knew he wanted to be on TV, or in TV, not sure, and with a tag line “You name the celebrity, and I have probably interviewed them. Twice.” I would say he was successful in reaching his dreams.
After receiving a degree in broadcasting from the University of Iowa, Michael worked for numerous local television affiliates in Des Moines, Orlando, and Kansas City, and up until a few years ago, he was the co-host of a local daily entertainment show, KC Live.
Throughout his career, Michael has won eight Emmys, even winning the first award he was nominated for.
Today, Michael has multiple irons in the fire, working full-time for Lillian James Creative as their digital content + videography guru. He and the crew have one mission: to create an industry where the only thing determining who gets the customers’ attention is who has the best ideas, products, and services—not who has the biggest company with the most prominent team.
Michael also does freelance writing (another top-notch skill he has) for The Pitch. In addition, you should check out his “Four Inane Questions” column he does with celebs, influencers, and local leaders. He also does another monthly article for them called “Secret Menu KC.”
On top of writing for The Pitch, he also does freelance writing for MyFavePlaces.com, a straightforward, no-ads mobile platform for people to save and share the places they love. Michael helps find unique, off-the-beaten-path destinations and introduces them to the travel-savvy masses. His claim to fame is discovering little-known locales throughout the United States.
Also, he’s the primary fill-in host for KC's #1 talk radio program, "Dana & Parks,” on KMBZ Radio. Not only does he do on-air interviews, but helps promote the show through social media and blogging.
And if that was not enough to keep him busy, he is also a certified fitness instructor at Genesis Health Clubs and muses on his blog, MichaelMackie.com.
