Charlie’s House

Through a family tragedy in 2007, Charlie's House was born.

What initially started as a memorial and an outpouring of public support has grown into a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization with safety at its core—led by Executive Director J Stuart Hoffman, Charlie's House's mission is dedicated to preventing accidents and injuries to children in and around the home.

Charlie's House - Safety Demonstration House is a community resource that provides parents and caregivers with ways to set up their homes to make them safe for children.

Located on Hospital Hill in Kansas City, the Safety Demonstration House is the nation's first simulation home to focus on injury and accident prevention and reducing safety risks.

Free tours are offered to individuals and groups, and information and safety devices are available in the Safety Demonstration House Safety Resource Center.

Charlie’s House educates people on five main safety areas, home, fire, water, vehicle, and seasonal.

In 2021 alone, Charlie’s House reached over 11,000 households through public events, programs, services, and their Safety Demonstration House tours. In addition, Charlie’s House offers eight different safety supplies to help begin the child-proofing of your home for no charge; all you have to cover is shipping.

Some of those supplies include blind cord wraps, cabinet drawer latches, cabinet locks, doorknob covers, and more.

With unintentional injuries remaining a crucial public health concern, and the number one cause of death in children, it is more important than ever for a non-profit like Charlie’s House to exist and provide parents with the education to make their homes safer.
